Rise over run. A horizontal line has slope 0. A vertical line has undefined slope.
Variables
- (x₁, y₁) — First point
- (x₂, y₂) — Second point
When to use it
Whenever you have two points on a non-vertical line and need the rate of change.
Worked example
(1, 2) and (3, 6)
- m = (6-2)/(3-1) = 2
